SMILEY, Donald (Don)
On June 19, 2020, Donald Smiley passed away at the age of 87. His memory will be cherished by his wife Mary Ann, his daughter Darlene and son-in-law Grant, his son Dean and daughter-in-law Bobbi and their children Sydney and Samantha. He also leaves behind his brother Cyril and sister Anne. He was predeceased by his infant daughter Patti, his parents Kenneth and Iris, his brother Cyril and sister Anne. "A Celebration of his Life of Kindness" will be held as soon as we are able to gather again.
​Don and Mary Ann ran the Spruce Grove Golden Age Club for many years and many many AFCA Tournaments were held there. Mary Ann was also a recent Director of the AFCA Board.

BENETT, Stephen John, November 20, 1926 – November 17th, 2019
On November 17, 2019, Stephen Bennett of Edmonton passed away peacefully at the age of 92.  Stephen is survived by his loving wife Dorothy, three grandchildren and two great- grandchildren. He was a life time member of the Southeast Edmonton Seniors Association and the Alberta Floor Curling Association. He was an advocate for his community and always available to help out. He will be missed by many.

ESZCZUK, Stanley Francis, November 18th, 1943 - January 10, 2019
Stan passed away
January 10, 2019, at the age of 75. He will be forever loved and remembered by his wife, Carol-Anne; 4 children, Janice (Bob) Janz, Jared, Terry (Sharon), Carol (Bill) Wilson; 4 grandchildren, Joshua and Hana, Matthew and Kevin; brother, Clarence Guth; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends. Stan is predeceased by his first wife, Lynda in 2005. Stan was a Director and active member for Alberta Floor Curling, involved, in particular, with Onoway and Villeneuve.​

GIBSON, Darlene Elizabeth, April 12th, 1941 - October 17th, 2018
Darlene passed away October 17th, 2018 at the age of 77 years. Darlene leaves to mourn her husband of nearly 55 years, Alex Gibson; daughter, Tracey Toomey; son, Larry Gibson; grandchildren, Tallus Gibson, Zane Gibson, & Megan Toomey; as well as 6 brothers and sisters, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors. Darlene was a long time participant in the Jarvie Community and in the surrounding communities.

METSGER, Margaret Isabel, June 6th, 1929 – September 20th, 2018
Margaret Metsger of Westlock passed away at the age of 89 years.  She is survived by her sons, Bernard Collin (Vickie), Byron Collin (Therese) and her daughter Dalayce Rimmer (Daryle): 5 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren: She is also survived by her sister Catherine Higgins. Margaret was predeceased by her first husband, Arnold Collin (June 13th, 1974) and her second husband, Texas Metsger (January 15th, 2008).  Margaret was a long time volunteer in the Westlock community and will be missed by many.  She was an avid card player and floor curler.  ​

​NICOLAS "NICK" LABATIUK, December 18, 1928 - June 16, 2018
On Saturday, June 16, Nick Labatiuk of Vegreville passed away at the age of 89. Nick was a long time member of AFCA. Nick is survived by his son Bruce; 3 grandchildren, 2 great-granddaughters;  1 brother Bill; and 1 sister -in-law Nellie Labatiuk; along with numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Nick was predeceased by his wife Iris, his parents, 2 brothers and 4 sisters.

OLIVE AUGER (nee Gauthier), November 11, 1925 - April 21, 2016
Olive Auger passed away April 21, 2016 at the age of 90. Olive was the wife of Aimé Auger, Founder of AFCA, who passed away last year, May 17, 2015, at the age of 91. Olive supported her husband with starting, running and participating in AFCA, Olive will be deeply missed by her children: Gisèle, Anita, Philippe (Holly), Lucille (Laurent), Yvette (Matt), Marc (Joanne), and Lise (Derek); 20 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

WILLIAM "BILL" SOETAERT, July 10, 1919 - March 17, 2016
William "Bill" Soetaert, long-time resident of Sturgeon County and member of "Villeneuve Happy Sixties Club", passed away March 17, 2016 at the age of 96. Bill was a Director of AFCA from its incorporation in 1988 until 1997, serving as President for two terms, 1989 and 1992. Bill was an active member of AFCA from that time and thru the years, until last year, when failing health forced him to give up the game he loved. Bill and his wife Florence (who passed away in 2009) were well know to a good many AFCA members over the years, as they were frequent participants in tournaments throughout the Province. He will long be remembered by his four children and their spouses; 11 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; 7 great-great grandchildren; numerous relatives and friends.

DENNIS URSULIAK, July 5, 1920 - January 8, 2016
Dennis Ursuliak, a long time Member and Director of AFCA from Vegreville, passed away January 8, 2016 at the age of 96. Dennis will be greatly missed by his wife of 73 years, Nellie; children Audrey (Emil), Janie (Bill), Don (Eileen), Craig (Barb) and Lucille (Ken); 5 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

GORDON CONNERY, August 4, 1933 - August 29, 2015
Gordon Connery, a long time Member and Director of AFCA from Morinville, passed away on  August 29, 2015 at the age of 82. Gordon will be greatly missed by his wife of 60 years, Audrey, also a long time past Member and Director and President of AFCA; children Debra (Craig) Suchy, Wayne (Marci) Connery, John (Sandy) Connery, and Cheryl Granger; grand children Madison,  Aaron, Paige, Brennan, and Austin Connery; great grandson Barrett Suchy; and numerous nieces and nephews.

AIME AUGER, November 3, 1923 - May 17, 2015
Aimé Auger was the Founder of AFCA, from Beaumont, which was incorporated September 13, 1988. Aimé Auger, 91, entered into eternal peace on Sunday, May 17, 2015. His memory will be cherished by his loving wife of 66 years, Olive and their children: Gisèle, Anita, Philippe (Holly), Lucille (Laurent), Yvette (Matt), Marc (Joanne), and Lise (Derek) and their grandchildren and many nieces and nephew.

LEONA POLLARD, December 9, 2013
Leona Pollard was a Member and Director of AFCA from Slave Lake. She passed away December 9, 2013 at the age of 74. She leaves behind her husband of 54 years, Len; children Ken, Lorri (Cauette) and Brad; grandchildren; Lauren, Zach, Ian and Kenton.

ERIC PFANNMULLER, October 6, 2011
Eric Pfannmuller was a Member and Director of AFCA from Mayerthorpe. He passed away October 6, 2011 at the age of 71. Eric leaves behind his loving wife of 46  years, Gail; daughters Tracy, Sherry and Carmen; and 13 grandchildren.
